After winning in Merksplas, Joris Nieuwenhuis also claims victory in Boom
Saturday 2 December 2023
Two in a row for Joris Nieuwenhuis in the Telenet Superprestige 2023-2024. The Dutchman from Baloise Trek Lions defended a ten second lead on Cameron Mason throughout almost the entire race and was ultimately able to secure the win. Eli Iserbyt won the battle for third place.
The best start in Boom was for Jens Adams. The Belgian shot off furiously from the start and succeeded in keeping the rest of the field behind him for a while, but that did not last long. The two teammates, Thibau Nys and Joris Nieuwenhuis, caught up with the Belgian, after which Nieuwenhuis set off on an adventure of his own. After the first two laps, the Dutchman had built up a lead of seven seconds. Cameron Mason was his first pursuer, followed by Nys and Iserbyt.
Nieuwenhuis and Mason clearly had the best legs, but the Briton was unable to get to the Dutchman. The difference between the two fluctuated constantly between 5 and 10 seconds. Behind them, a group formed with Iserbyt, Vandeputte, Vanthourenhout, Thijs Aerts and Nys, but by then the gap to the leader had already increased to a minute.
The first two podium places had already gone, and just after the halfway point in the race the battle for the final podium spot also seemed to take a decisive turn. Eli Iserbyt broke away from his competitors and gained a nice lead.
After a great battle with Cameron Mason, Joris Nieuwenhuis finally came out on top. Throughout the race his lead fluctuated around 10 seconds and that was no different at the finish. Eli Iserbyt joined the two on the podium, extending his lead in the classification.
