Strong lineup at the start of the Telenet Superprestige in Ruddervoorde
Thursday 17 October 2024
This Sunday, we kick off a new season of the Telenet Superprestige in Ruddervoorde. Both in the Women Elite and Men Elite races, it promises to be a fierce battle, as several big names will be at the start.
In the women's race, World Champion Fem van Empel, Dutch Champion Lucinda Brand, and Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado, last year's overall winner of the oldest regularity competition, will be heading to Ruddervoorde. Belgian Champion Sanne Cant, Sara Casasola, and Laura Verdonschot will also give their best during the opening round of a new Telenet Superprestige season.
In the Men Elite race, an equally stellar lineup is on the entry list. Belgian Champion Eli Iserbyt, Dutch Champion Joris Nieuwenhuis, and European Champion Michael Vanthourenhout will face off against each other. They will be joined by Thibau Nys, Lars van der Haar, and British Champion Cameron Mason.
The field course in Ruddervoorde provided a thriller last year in the Men Elite race. Lars van der Haar started cautiously, but eventually made his move and led the final lap. In the end, Iserbyt had the strongest legs and overtook Van der Haar in the closing moments to claim his fourth consecutive victory in Ruddervoorde.
In the Women Elite race, it seemed for a long time to be a duel between Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado and Annemarie Worst. Halfway through the race, everything changed when Alvarado made a strong move in the sandpit, leaving Worst behind. Alvarado never looked back, completing her hat trick in Ruddervoorde.
